Mount Batur is a very sacred mountain according to Hindu's belief. This mountain is located in Batur village, Kintamani District, Bangli Regency. On any given day, residents around Mount Batur hold a ceremony "Pekelem". This ceremony is a form of gratitude to Ida Sang Hyang Widhi of what has been bestowed upon his people. The ceremony is held once a year and every five years conducted a large ceremony. Ceremony conducted in a large cave at the top of Mount Batur, exactly in the main crater.
Mount Batur is 1.717 meters above sea level mountain. Mount Batur is still an active volcano's eruption issue. Counted seven times eruption that occurred in: 1804, 1849,1926,1953, 1974.1884, 2000.
Largest eruption occurred in 1963 that emit lava that destroyed the village people. At the bottom of the mountain is a lake volcanic it is called Lake Batur. This lake is the largest lake in Bali that the extent of 22 km2 and 1031 meters above the sea level.
Starting the journey from the first point or the parking area at 04.00 AM in the morning which takes approximately 2 hours until the peak. Breakfast prepared by the guide that includes eggs, bananas and bread (banana sandwiches) are cooked by white hot steam. After breakfast then we continue traveling around the main crater, this trip will take a half to one hour, walk around in the rim of the main crater. This trip is really beautiful that we can see the activities of human around Mount Batur.
